J.T. Cope IV was born in Bryan, Texas, and grew up in the small farming community of Wheelock, living on land that had been in the family for more than a century.
In 2002 he graduated from Centenary College of Louisiana with a bachelor’s degree in physics. That is also where he met his wife, Katie. He joined the United States Marine Corps in January 2003 and married Katie that July.
In 2006 he returned from duty in Iraq. On a cold, rainy day, at a small table in the back of a coffee shop, he took down the first notes and ideas for what became the Countryside series.
That November, J.T. and Katie moved back to Fort Worth, where he pursued a master’s in geology at the University of Texas at Arlington. As a geologist he spent long days on drilling rigs, picking through rock brought up from two miles below the surface — time that also gave the first novel room to grow. Over the next couple of years he finished and published Countryside: The Book of the Wise.
He lives in Texas with his wife and three daughters. Beside the novels he hosts The American Soul, a daily podcast of Scripture, Medal of Honor stories, and the Christian inheritance of the American founding.
